Tonka Fest Update

The Inaugural “Tonka Fest” Baseball Festival wrapped up today under brilliant, blue skies and a wind that certainly did not do anything nice to my hair style.

In the morning UTLL “Roberts” (nicknamed the Beastie Boys), completed their suspended Friday game against South Tonka.  This was a real nailbiter of a game and the Beastie Boys came up just short in the 18-17 score.

The afternoon brought the return of the Beastie Boys against “UTLL” Marquis (nicknamed Tiny Twins).  The Tiny Twins jumped out to an early lead and it looked like a blow-out might be at hand until Sam Nolden of the Beastie Boys made a diving/sliding (falling?) catch of a sharply hit ball in Right Field by the Tiny Twins Quentin Crenshaw.  This play seemed to breathe life into the Beastie Boys and they came roaring back.  The Tiny Twins, though, were able to hold on in the last inning for a 13-10 victory.

I hope everyone had fun in this “bonus” week of baseball.  I know I sure saw improvement of the squad I coached and I’m sure Coach Roberts saw the same.

My thanks to the many, many of you that helped make this week of success – the parents, the coaches, the players, the umpires & (of course), the UTLL, ETLL & STLL Boards.  My special thanks goes to RICH ROBERTS for jumping in at the last minute to coach the other team.

On a personal note, most of you were aware that I was pulled away from this week by a family emergency.  The outpouring of sharing, caring, help & support I received from parents & coaches (from both teams) really exhibited the kind of behavior that UTLL stands for.  I am PROUD to be associated with such a fine organization and am grateful to have gotten to know all of you and thankful for the support I received.

UTLL Recycles!

The Upper Tonka Little League has made a commitment to recycle materials generated by the Wolner Field concessions.  Blue recycling containers are now located at the fields for the recycling of plastic bottles (from water bottles, Gatorade, etc.) and cardboard boxes generated from the concession stand will also be recycled.

Recycling is the right thing to do and an important lesson we can teach our children.  Please use the blue recycling containers and contact Deb Bennyhoff at 612.964.1400 if you have any questions or would like help with this effort.
